Police and Law Enforcement

Law and Order in Washington D.C.

The Police

Enforcers of the law, and guardians of the people, their duty to serve and protect. A hard duty, and a dangerous one, even in the real world. But in the World of Darkness, it becomes all the more dangerous. Worse things than muggers and junkies lurk in the city's darkness, and pursuing some lines of investigation can often lead one to things better left unknown.

The Government

Members of "alphabet soup" agencies, who in the past have been idolized by the public in the days of the G-men, now find themselves dealing with a public raised to trust no one, and to distrust the government above others. They know, in some cases, of the dangers of the night, especially the vampires and the werewolves, but their information is spotty, and dangerously incomplete. They play a most dangerous game, hunting the best predators in the world.

Organized Crime

The Mafia exists in virtually every city to some extent, and this one is a shining example of it. They move quietly, to avoid drawing attention, and even act as a sort of police force of their own; by keeping the streets free of petty thugs, they ensure that people think nothing's wrong...which frees them to move all the more.

Washington D.C. has all of these elements and more. The city is in need of people to fill various roles in these three groups. What we would ask is that people not apply for such a position if they know nothing about it, unless they're willing to take the time to research it and learn. The Mafia has certain standards of behavior; certain policies and practices. Police and government agents both have procedures that they must follow. We don't want to see police whose first answer to a problem is to pull their revolver, and start shooting. Believe me...the amount of paperwork necessary if a policeman so much as pulls the trigger is staggering. And doing so outside of a very rigidly defined series of events will get one suspended, or even worse. Government agents often have a broader discretionary latitude, but even they have superiors to answer to. Below are a list of the various groups, along with openings, and any comments. Individual criminals are rather rare, as are gangs, but both do exist. To play either, speak to Billy Idol directly before applying, to inquire about the openings.

Police: Washington is in need of police, of all stripes and sizes. Beat cops, detectives, coroners, forensics specialists, administrative types. We need everything. There's currently no limit on the number of Police slots. We encourage anyone who's willing to learn the police procedures to consider applying for a police alt. The police will be geared not only towards the usual day to day police procedures, but also city politics as they play a huge roll in it.

Government Agents: The various alphabet soup agencies have no active field agents in the area at this time. However, this may change rapidly once roleplay begins, based on the actions of players. Supernaturals who leave evidence are likely to bring in the FBI's Special Affairs Division. Organized crime types who get sloppy are likely to bring in normal FBI agents. The CIA and the NSA aren't as likely to get involved unless things go seriously wrong. For now, watch this space. Things will be changing.

Organized Crime: There is a Mafia presence in the area, mostly involved in white-collar crime, often involving the various banks and businesses in the area. The Mafia is somewhat selective as to who they let in, and knowledge of their practices are useful. However, people who've seen the various "Godfather" movies can probably wing it. Please note that there are Mafia families that are not Italian.
