---------------------------------------------------------------------------

3) Character's Name: Lincoln Taylor

----------------------------------------------------------------------

4) Character's Description:

The man before you is powerfully built, his skin the color of of aged black leather, though not as rough. His hair is black and cut short, with just a hint of frizz in it, and the eyes that look out of slightly sharp face are a deep brown, almost as dark as his skin. His build is slim and lanky, just this side of thin in fact, but one gets the feeling he's not as fragile as he looks. He wears a blue policeman's uniform, neat but showing the signs that he has better things to do than keep it in absolutely perfect shape. His demeanor is relaxed, but not casual; one gets the impression he'd respond to trouble quickly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

5) Character's Personality Traits:

Easy-going: Linc isn't a hard-charger; he's never found that getting in people's face makes things go easier, and doesn't see much point in starting trouble when it's not necessary.

Tough: Some people take Linc's laid back nature as indication of softness. They usually find out that's a mistake, and that when hardness is required, he can give it in spades. He's unwilling to tolerate abuse of others or the law, and can make someone strongly regret it if they don't back down. He's also capable of taking his licks, both mentally and physically.

Flexible: Taylor isn't one of those people who gets set in his ways and can't handle changes. In fact, he's often one of the first people others come to when something unusual is required. Related to this, he's fairly resistant to suprise; he tends to go with the flow and recover from changes very fast.

Incurious: Lincoln's life has taught him that minding his own business is not only a virtue, it's a survival trait. He won't slack off if something seems to need further looking into, but if it doesn't relate directly to him or his job, he often feels he's better off not knowing.

6) Character's Background:

Lincoln Taylor was born in an upper middle class black area in Los Angeles, the third of three children, and in many ways the black sheep of the family. While not a terrible student, he spent way too much of his childhood and teen years chasing balls and girls, and not enough chasing grades. He ended up going to a local junior college instead of a university, and soon realized that no academic career or desk job would suit him. Not long after this, he applied as a Los Angeles policeman, and was accepted.

After his time in the Academy, he was assigned a job as a patrolman and was reasonably happy in his work for about four years. Then his partner Curtis got wind of what seemed like a payoff scheme, and dragged Lincoln into it, very reluctantly. By the time it was over, Curtis had been shot and he was under investigation from Internal Affairs. He was cleared of all wrong-doing, and was even commended for his part in events, but he never felt right in the L. A. Police again. A year later, he decided to move on, and looked around for another police job, far from Los Angeles.

As it turned out, the Ann Arbor police force was in the middle of a shortage of officers at the time, and they were quite impressed by Taylor's experience. Within a few weeks, he was working in the city, back as a beat patrolman.

Taylor has been in Ann Arbor about a year now. Even more than in Los Angeles, he's gotten the occasional feeling that something was going on that wasn't quite...normal. But he learned his partner's lesson. Don't stir things up.

7) Character's Attributes:

STRENGTH
Though his frame doesn't make it easy, Lincoln has a whipcord strength it doesn't do to underestimate. Many a bad guy has learned the hard way that he's stronger than most people.

DEXTERITY
Perhaps less suprising than his strength, Lincoln is very quick on his feet, and agile to boot. He's obviously more coordinated than the obvious person.

STAMINA
Even more suprising than his strength, Lincoln is more physically durable than would seem possible for such a slim man. He's like bamboo; frail in appearance, but strong in practice. Capable of taking a licking, he also can almost always go the distance.

CHARISMA
It's hard not to like a guy as soft-spoken and generally laid back as Lincoln is, and when you add in his helpfulness, he usually gives a good impression.

MANIPULATION
Linc isn't much of a user. Oh, he's had his share of lying to parents and playing up to girlfriends, but no more than the average.

APPEARANCE
Unfortunately, Linc isn't the best looking guy you'll ever see. Though actually in good shape, he looks scrawny, and his features are a little two sharp, though memorable.

PERCEPTION
He may be laid back, but Lincoln is far more alert than he looks. A lot of things that go by most people catch his attention immediately.

INTELLIGENCE
While not stupid, Lincoln isn't anything exceptional in the brains department. He has to work at it just about like most people when he wants to figure something out.

WITS
On the other hand, he does think fast on his feet. He may not always be too clever at thinking something through, but if he's got to make a decision right _now_ he's pretty likely to make it right.

7) Character's Skills:

<Simply list all desired skills and follow them with a short explanation of where, why, and how the character picked them up.>

Alertness:
Lincoln is, as noted above, an alert fellow. Being aware of your surroundings all the time is a necessity for a policeman.

Athletics:
Lincoln is athletic almost to the point of mania. If someone's got to leap the fence or chase the perp down, he's your man.

Brawl:
Though not combatative by preference, Lincoln can more than just hold his own in a fight; he's so good that he rarely needs to use his baton when something's gone south.

Dodge:
Sometimes just as important as taking down the perp is not getting taken down doing it. Lincoln is fairly good at getting out of harm's way.

Empathy:
One of the parts of dealing with people is understanding them. Lincoln isn't an expert at reading people, but he usually has a clue what's going on.

Streetwise:
One of the advantages of years as a beat cop is you usually know what's what and who's who. Lincoln is pretty good at this, even in Ann Arbor's clean and tidy environs.

Drive:
An enthusiastic driver even before the force, Lincoln has recieved the usual pursuit and evasion courses since.

Etiquette:
One of the important issues when it comes to making people comfortable around you is not putting your foot in it. Having spent time with people from all walks of life, Lincoln has a pretty good idea what not to say in most situations.

Firearms:
While he's had to train and use his service auto as part of the force, Lincoln dislikes doing so, and hasn't gone out of his way to be more than competent with it.

Melee:
Similarly, Linc doesn't like using the baton, so he's only taken time to get the necessary basics of it.

Investigation:
Fairly methodical and perceptive, Lincoln is unlikely to be the guy to screw up the investigation. On the other hand, he's no expert criminologist, and usually relies on the specialists for that sort of thing.

Law:
Though not a lawyer, Lincoln takes his job seriously, and that means knowing what laws apply locally so he can enforce the properly.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

8) Character's Contacts/Resources/Technology:

Lincoln has the normal items you'd expect a beat patrolman to
have, including a service automatic, handcuffs, and so on. In terms of contacts, he's only been in town a few months, but can, of course, access all the information a policeman would be expected to.

He still has some friends in relatively high places in the Los Angeles Police Department, and could use this to bypass normal information sources if need be. He's also started to develop a certain number of contacts among the students and what passes for Ann Arbor's criminal population, since he's so accessible.

9. Notes:
<Please include any incidental information not covered in the above application form. Anything at all you would like the staff to see in order to get a better grasp on the character. This section is optional, but we -strongly- encourage you to at least give us an idea of what you want out of this character and where you intend to take it. Remember, creativity counts for a lot.>

Lincoln is a man who will do his best to just do his job, enjoy himself, and try to pretend nothing too odd is happening around him. He'll actively resist being dragged into the wierd, but he's got a conscience and if something he can't ignore happens, he'll deal with it best he can.
