3) Character's Name and Type: Michael Sanders, widderslante Orphan

---------------------------------------------------------------------

4) Character's Description:

The man stands over six feet tall, his hair short and black and his eyes a deep, warm brown, alert and with perhaps a hint of sadness deep within them. His face is expressive but controlled, the planes smooth, full and symmetrical, his complexion tanned and a little weathered. His build is heavy, running to fat but with underlaying layers of muscle that show this appearance is deceptive. His clothing shows the signs of someone who doesn't much care about dress: a red and green flannel shirt, jeans worn from use rather than for effect, and sturdy boots.

5) Character's Personality Traits:

DRIVEN: Michael is compelled. He's seen what the Universe has become, and he will not rest until it is cleansed. He will do anything, take any action, if he thinks it moves reality closer to it's pyre, to spiralling down into Oblivion. This can lead him to horrible actions when it is necessary.

TORMENTED: Michael Sanders does not have the luxury of feeling self-justified. He knows what pain and horror he makes on his way to his goal, and cannot hide himself from the reality of that even though he thinks it absolutely necessary. Combined with his inability to ever forget the horrors than linger on the fringes of reality, Sanders has little rest in his soul. Only in the endof everything will he rest.

KIND: Bizarrely, for a Malfean, Sanders is a kind man. He has no interest in pain for it's own sake, and given his own choice would not harm a fly. This can decieve people all the more, as they see him exhibit small but genuine kindnesses.

DESTRUCTIVE: One way in which Sanders ultimate aims tend to leak out is in his destructive impulses; given two methods of solving a problem, he'll choose the one which makes more of a mess, and takes delight in explosions, fiery cataclysms, and all manner of destruction. After all, it all has to go...

AFRAID OF THE DARK: Even from an early age, the knowledge has nagged at Michael's consciousness that there were things hiding in the dark beyond the stars that no one wanted to look at. Since Awakening, this is all the more difficult for him to face, and he reacts strongly against going into dark places, something that amuses his fellow Malfeans no end.

6) Character's Background:

Michael Sanders Awoke on his 18th birthday with a scream. While sitting in a college classroom, listening to his psychology teacher talking about visualization as a tool, he managed to make a connection with his Avatar--and it flung open the gates of Hell for him.

Sanders early life had been uneventful; raised in a suburb of Grand Rapids, nothing had suggested anything dark lurking in him, other than a fascination for the odd and unusual. That and perhaps his abnormal fear of the dark, one no psychologist had ever been able to help him with. he was a good if sometimes erratic student, and in time he applied to Ann Arbor and managed to squeek through the process. He started as a psychology major, not knowing it would lead him to peer into parts of his mind he'd rather not know. In that moment of opening awareness, looking full at the face of the Outer Things that gnaw on the edges of reality, Sanders saw the horror that underlay everything he knew, and knew in an instant of crystal clarity that the only way to end these horrors was to bring the Universe down on their heads.

It took some time for Sanders to develop his newly awakened abilities, to forge the tools he knew he'd need. Finally, he developed a pattern of interacting with reality by focusing on changing parts of how he related to it...specifically, arcane gestures, rhythmic chants, and internal visualizations, all of which were only meaningful to him, mnemonics in his grasp of the greater reality. His perception is, in it's way, a twisted version of that of the Celestial Chorus; he sees himself of the greater consciousness of the Universe...a fragment that has been woke up by parasites gnawing at it's bowels.

All chance of his avoiding his widderslainte fate were destroyed when Sanders encountered a Void Engineer who recognized his talent and became involved with him. When she lead him on a trip into the Umbra, they briefly strayed into the Low Umbra, and he got a distant look at Oblivion. This was the answer he sought. The end of everything. No demons, no Outer Things, no Wyrm...just pure, clean destruction. He fled from her, and finally encountered a Malfean group. Though they were a bit unsure of this strange Orphan, they brought him into the fold and he was remade in their Caul. Why would the Wyrm not take him, after all? He who served Oblivion over all else, really served it...

Now Sanders has returned to Ann Arbor, trying to stay away from the Void Engineer by 'hiding in plain site'. He has interacted with many magi now, and managed to fool them all into thinking of him as an odd but well meaning Orphan. And he prays daily that somehow he will find the place he must stand to burn the Universe around him, hideous master and all.

7) Character's Attributes:

STRENGTH
Michael is a big man, and though not as strong as he could be, he's still more powerful physically than the average person.

DEXTERITY
Though at one time rather unathletic and clumsy, Michael's activities since he Awakened have forced a certain emphasis on agility and speed, and many of the skills he's developed to pursue his plans have been the sort to improve these areas. By now he's become actually a bit superior to the common man in this area.

STAMINA
Between his build and his activities of recent years, Michael has become a fair across the board athlete, and his stamina is no exception. While not exceptional, it is certainly above average.

CHARISMA
Michael can be pleasant enough, but he's also a bit too moody to get a consistent sort of positive response from people. As such while not annoying or off-putting, he can't be described as charismatic.

MANIPULATION
In his prior life, Michael was probably the antithesis of manipulative; he was an open book to most people who wore his heart on his sleeve. Though he's had to learn to get away from that to not be discovered, it still requires conscious thought and isn't particularly natural to him. As such, he's probably at best average in this area.

APPEARANCE
Michael might well be decent looking if he lost more weight, but as it is, his chunkiness works against his not-unattractive features.

PERCEPTION
Michael is one of the most perceptive people you will likely ever meet, attuned to nuances most people wouldn't even get a hint of. He misses things on occasion, but it's more noticeable when he fails than when he succeeds.

INTELLIGENCE
Michael is certainly of above average intelligence, sometimes almost bordering on the brilliant, but his concentration sometimes leaves something to be desired.

WITS
As with other things, Michael was not at one time terribly quick on his mental feet, but events have forced him to learn to think faster, and by this point in his life he's distinctly above the average, and knows when it's time to cut his losses.

7) Character's Skills:

<Simply list all desired skills and follow them with a short explanation of where, why, and how the character picked them up.>

Alertness: Between his activities with other magi, and his wandering in strange places, picking out fine details has been at a premium for Michael. This includes both the mundane, and to a lesser degree magical spheres.

Combat Skills: Since he started on his road, Michael has spent a lot of his time learning to fight effectively, whether with his bare hands, firearms, or even some martial arts weapons. While not a master, he is distinctly capable in most of these areas.

Subtrefuge: As a lone Nephandus who spends time around other magi on a regular basis, and one with little natural talent in this area, learning to decieve people has been a necessity. His Malfean master have made sure to instruct him as much as they could in this area, and the events since his Awakening have done even more.

Education: Michael has a good general array of academic skills, none at an exceptional level. This includes a scattering of sciences, research and computer skills.

Lore: Michael has studied everything he could about the ins and outs of magi, including the Traditions, Marauders and the Technocracy. Given his ability to move from group to group because of his apparent lack of affiliation, he's often learned more than people thought. This is even true of his Nephandic masters, who think him far more ignorant than he is.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

8) Character's Contacts/Resources/Technology:

Michael is not particularly well off; his money tends to get poured into his next attempt to find a way to end the world, and his masters don't help him much. He lives out of his van mostly, and makes most of his money by either one-off research jobs or use of his magic to acquire funds in one way or another. He has located a small node he's not bothered to mention to his masters, but he controls it only to the extent he's the only one who knowswhere it is, in a small cavern out in the forest.

9. Notes:
<Please include any incidental information not covered in the above application form. Anything at all you would like the staff to see in order to get a better grasp on the character. This section is optional, but we -strongly- encourage you to at least give us an idea of what you want out of this character and where you intend to take it. Remember, creativity counts for a lot.>

Michael is most competent in the areas of Correspondance and Spirit, having played games behond the Horizon in the past; his destructive urges have also lead him on the fast track to Forces. Though not as capable in these areas, as might be expected given his predilictions, he also knows his way around Prime and Entropy. Most recently he has started developing some skill in Mind, though at the moment he is only up to it's most passive uses.

Michael's purpose is to present that rarity, a genuinely somewhat sympathetic Nephandus. He does horrible things, but is not himself a horrible person; if he could reach out and painlessly snuff out what he views as a corrupted universe, he would. Redemption isn't impossible, but it's unlikely anyone would try.
