3) Character's Name and Type: Alan Linhaer, Psychic
---------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Character's Description:
Linhaer is a slightly built man, almost wiry, a few inches under six feet tall. He has almost shoulder length chestnut brown hair, always gleaming like it is fresh washed, offset by dark green eyes that can seem almost hazel in some lights, and glance alertly around like the eyes of a bird. His features are somewhat rugged, in a way that vaguely the British Isles rather than any Germanic country. He wears a soft cotton sportshirt in dark blue, and a pair of black designer jeans, with a simple set of sneakers on his feet.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) Character's Personality Traits:
CURIOUS: Linhaer is a naturally curious person. Once something catches his interest, he just can't it go until he's nosed all around it. The fact it has gotten him shot in the past has only slightly tempered this tendency, and he'll tend to nose into anything that isn't obviously stupid...and some things that are.
AGGRESSIVE: Linhaer has always had an aggressive personality. This is mostly directed into his fencing and his work, but to some extent it operates in all aspects of his life. Once he goes after something, he's very much full speed ahead. This has gotten him in trouble more than once in different ways, but it's also gotten him enough of what he wants that he sticks to it.
APOLITICAL: Not just in terms of government, but in terms of everything, Alan doesn't put much weight on groups or taking sides. He's always more interested in things on a case by case basis, and what someone is doing now rather than what color flag they fly or who's banner they wave.
HYPERKINETIC: Alan just can't sit still for long. He always has to be doing something, working on a project,
or otherwise being active. Even relaxation for him is usually a lot of work, but he likes it that way. On the
upside, he tends to get a lot done...he just sometimes drives people crazy doing it.

6) Character's Background:
Alan Linhaer was born and spent the first seventeen years of his life in Omaha, Nebraska, the third of four sons of a moderately well off bakery owner. His father was a fencer in his spare time, and while he taught all his sons how to fence, only Alan had any genuine talent for it. When he reached 18, he prepared to try out for the Olympic fencing team. In the meantime, he started junior college with a Communications degree. During the period when he was trying out for the team, he dropped out of school for a couple of years.
Right after this Linhaer was with some friends going to a party in a somewhat less than wonderful part of town, when he'd had a bit too much to drink and wandered off to find a place to relieve himself. Instead, he heard the sound of a scuffle, and followed his curiosity to find a holdup in progress. A little too drunk to reign his natural aggression in when the holdup man waved a gun at him, Linhaer charged him and got what you'd expect...shot.
Rushed to the hospital, Linhaer died on the operating table...but was revived. As far as the doctors knew, it was almost a technicality. Alan recovered suprisingly quickly, perhaps because of his good physical conditioning.
What the doctors did not know was that something had happened to him during his moments of death. A gift had awakened in him, and, erratically at first, he began to hear thoughts.
Alan was, unsuprisingly, puzzled by this. But some instinct told him perhaps he'd best keep it to himself. Unsure if he wanted to try for the Olympic team again in 2000, for the time being he decided to go to college, adding a business degree to his lesser communications degree. Applying for admission to the University in Ann Arbor, he was accepted easily given his reasonably impressive grades and the weighting of his athletic abilities.
In addition to studying business and being on the college fencing team, Alan makes some money as a salesman
at a software store. He's suprisingly attuned to the customer's needs...

7) Character's Attributes:
STRENGTH
Though strong for his size, Alan is too slim and wiry to really be considered of above average strength. Fencing
builds certain selective sorts of strength, but not general body strength.
DEXTERITY
Alan's agility, on the other hand, is superb. Capable of lightning quick movements and extremely surefooted,
Alan is more agile than a good ninety percent of the population.
STAMINA
While that muscle isn't much for raw power, it has given Alan a durability and resilience not to be underestimated,
as his shooting incident shows. Able to tire out all but the most robust opponents, Alan's stamina is easily a
match for his agility.
CHARISMA
Alan is a personable fellow who knows how to come off well to other people. While not outstanding, he usually
leaves a good impression with people.
MANIPULATION
Alan also knows what buttons to push and levers to pull. This was even true before his telepathy awoke, but
it's definitely true now. No master at it, he's still good at getting people to do what he likes.
APPEARANCE
While not an ugly individual, his features are too rough to really be considered attractive.
PERCEPTION
While not a very intellectual sort in some ways, Alan is alert to his surroundings, and doesn't miss too much.
He's better than most people in this regard.
INTELLIGENCE
On the other hand, no one would describe Alan as a particularly bright intellectual light. In fact, things
are often a it of a struggle for him; he usually gets by off of hard work and energy more than raw brains.
WITS
There's nothing unusual about his ability to think on his feet; sometimes he does okay, other times he, well,
gets shot.

7) Character's Skills:
<Simply list all desired skills and follow them with a short explanation of where, why, and how the character picked them up.>
Brawling: Though not especially oriented toward getting in fights, Alan is a wee bit too prone to get in people's faces not to have learned to hold his own over the years.
Athletics: Though specifically a fencer, Alan has swam, run and done a little bit of every individual sport you can name over the years, either for itself or for conditioning. He's a skilled general athelete in any area that doesn't require lots of raw power.
Intuition: Alan is, even when his telepathy is not working, prone to getting valid hunches, especially about people's motivations. Sometimes he just has a better feel for things than anything conscious will give him.
Etiquette: Alan can definitely 'play nice' when he's of a mood, and knows the proper way to operate in many settings, mostly from his years of spending time with his father at various gatherings.
Fencing: Alan is an Olympic grade fencer with foil, rapier and saber. Though not trained specifically in them, he'd be okay with knives or other weapons to the extent he could learn to crossapply the techniques.
Computers and Technology: Alan has a good basic grounding with software and most electronics, enough to do most tasks at a basic level at least, and mouse around in the guts of things.
Business: Alan has been studying business for two years now, and has most of the basic principals down well.
He's nothing outstanding, but better than the man on the street or even many small business owners.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
8) Character's Contacts/Resources/Technology:
Alan is moderately well off for a student; much of his tuition is being covered by an athletic scholarship,
so all he has to do with his job is cover books and his personal costs, and his father picks up the tab for some
of that. He has an apartment all his own and a fairly nice car (though not exceptionally expensive). Besides
his father and various coaches, several of his business instructors think well of him and would likely help him
out if he was in a jam.

9. Notes:
<Please include any incidental information not covered in the above application form. Anything at all you would like the staff to see in order to get a better grasp on the character. This section is optional, but we -strongly- encourage you to at least give us an idea of what you want out of this character and where you intend to take it. Remember, creativity counts for a lot.>
Alan is a telepath, capable of reading the surface thoughts of a given target by concentrating.
He's intended to be a fairly normal guy who's personality and special talent sometimes gets him in trouble.
