The following are some simple guidelines for building here on Shadow Games. If you have any questions about them, please contact a member of building staff.
| Creation | How to get the actual room dug, and ready to desc, etc. |
| Exits | What /must/ be done on your exits. |
| Rooms | What must be done on your rooms. |
| Judgenotes | What must be judgenoted to be considered valid, and how to get a judgenote. |
Only building staff may actually create the room. This is to cut down on DB bloat, and to make sure everything interacts properly with code.
Building staff will only create a room for you if you have the IC resources to have such a room. As a general rule, a person with enough resources for a 1 bedroom apartment will get 1 room...rooms such as the bathroom or kitchen area aren't likely to generate a lot of rp, and can be described in +views. (&view_whatever here=description of whatever)
If you feel the absolute need to figure out the various code, and to do the actual @digging of rooms, check to see if there are any Building staff slots open.
All exits should be named in the following format: Exit
All aliases should be included. For example: Out
All Exits will be set DARK and included in the &exits attribute of the room with ansi highlighting. (See help ansi())
All exits should also include a compass direction (North, East, South, West, Northeast, etc) for use with +compass code. (See +help compass)
All exits require a @desc, @succ, @fail, @osucc, @ofail, @odrop, and should be locked as appropriate. (help @desc, help @succ, etc)
Any exit with unusual security must be judgenoted. If the apartment complex mentions deadbolts, then a single deadbolt lock can be assumed. However, five deadbolts, a chain lock, bars over the window and a live current running through the knob would need notes.
All descriptions and room names should be grammatically correct and spell-checked, to ensure high quality. All rooms require a description, which will be set using the &STD attribute. Tidbits of information that one would not immediately see can be included in +views. (&view_whatever here=description of whatever)
Any room that contains anything unusual (hidden cameras, low-grade sonics, original Renior's in a Resources 1 apt) must be judgenoted.
All rooms should have an Out alias in the exits, to head back out from the most common entrance.
What a Judgenote is:
A Judgenote is any note set on an object or character by a member of staff, for the purpose of avoiding future confusion.
When to get a Judgenote:
You should get a Judgenote whenever there is anything which you are doing to yourself, your home, or anything else, which might eventually be questioned/contested by another (reasonable) player.
How to get a Judgenote:
You should contact a member of staff, preferably in the area which you want the note in. Room/exit notes should go to building staff. Personal notes should go to someone in your sphere.
Examples of things to get Judgenoted:
A home security system. A careful, concealing disguise, especially one which you might use again. Any concealed weapon. Any controlled weapon. Anti-hacking defenses on your computer.
Examples of things not to get Judgenoted:
A chain-lock added to your door. A diet. Make-up. A halloween mask. A can of hairspray and a lighter. An antivirus from the Internet. You might want to make a personal note of such things, if it is possible a judge would need to know them without your presence. You can do this with &owner_note
If you have Resources 0, you are by definition homeless, unless some kind IC person decides to take you into their home. There is currently no homeless shelter in Washington D.C., although it would be a worthy goal if someone decided to try to open one. See news building businesses. It is not uncommon to find the homeless sleeping in unused sections of campus buildings, as well as parks and warehouses.
If you do have some level of Resources, you can get a home. You can either move into one of the many IC apartment complexes and houses already on the grid (by far the preferred option), or you can build a new one. To move into any home simply find an area or apartment you like, read news building rules, and then contact a member of the building staff.
If you would ICly own or manage a business, you can get one of the many businesses on the grid turned over to you.
You can also try to build your own. This is a hassle rl...it's also a hassle IC. If you really have something that is nowhere on the grid, speak to building staff, and it will be considered.
