Consent

The World of Darkness is an inherently dangerous place. Dark creatures of legend stalk the night, evil plots run rampant. It is a place where all manner of fates can befall a hapless player.

By logging on here, this IMPLIES CONSENT to any event that can logically occur by the course of roleplay. You may list preferences, but those are just that: preferences.

If you are not willing to accept the possibility, however small, of death, torture, or any other unpleasantry, LOG OUT NOW. Note, that this does not mean that you must RP the scene .. it is completely acceptable to "fast-forward" past a scene, noting that, yes, it happened, and is part of continuity, but does not need to be played.

Preferences

Here on Shadow Games we do utilize the preference system. This enables you to build a list showing what types of plot elements you would, or would not, like to be involved in. Whenever possible, respect the list of any character you are interacting with. If someone is set !death, try not to kill them if there is an IC way around it.

Respect, however, goes two ways. Preferences are a way to improve rp, not to keep your character a member of the shiny-happy generation. If you decide to break into a Tremere's secret laboratory, you are not going to get off scot free, just because you're set !death, !dominate, and !torture.

Consensual RP is always best. If it does not break the OOC masquerade, it doesn't hurt to check with someone via page before doing something nasty. If they have a RL objection to it, and it is necessary to RP, try to work with them. If nothing else, no one is ever required to RP out a scene they find objectionable, so long as they are willing to conceed that it ICly happened, and they can agree with anyone else in the scene upon the results.

Harassment

There's a very simple policy here with regards to harassment. IC harassment, so long as it is ICly justified, is IC. RL harassment is covered in a wide variety of RL laws, and should be dealt with as appropriate RL. OOC harassment is unacceptable, and will not be tolerated.

OOC harassment is paging someone who doesn't want to be paged. It is persecuting a character IC because you don't like the player OOC or RL. It is blatantly ignoring OOC requests to be left alone. It is villifying the player because the character they play is evil.

Anyone who persists in harassing other players will be set ANNOYING. If the problem persists after that, harsher measures will be taken.

If you are having a problem with someone harassing you, report it to staff. We want this to be a quality MU* where people can come to enjoy themselves, not a place that loses its best players because of a few annoying ones.

Note that someone's character is not who they really are. Just because they may play a sadist/torturer/evil nasty doesn't mean that they are in RL. And even if they were, people have the right to live as they choose, and if you wish to berate them for such, do it elsewhere.

Death

Death is a very real possibility here on Shadow Games. If you cannot accept the possibility that your character may die as a result of RP, please log out now.

If you should happen to play a supernatural, and die, this does not ensure you another supernatural character .. we approve characters, not players. A new character would have to be reapplied for like any other. Long lost identical twins who just happened to receive the journals of the now-deceased character will not only not be approved.

If you feel that you are about to die, however, please make sure a judge is in attendance. Even if it is absolutely consenual, and there are no judges available, please make a log, for the staff to read if any questions about it should come up later. Judges should also be present for most fights.

Staff Decisions

There are noticeable differences between here and other WoD mushes. One of these, an important one, is that there will be none of the "staff-battering" that there is on other Mushes. Our staff has been hand-picked, and their judgment and competency is well-trusted. A good place to look is "news house rules". We don't run straight vanilla WW. If you disagree with a rule therein, you are welcome to disagree. However, the rules will /not/ be changed, no matter how much complaining is done. If a staff member makes a decision that you disagree with, you may appeal it to the wizard in charge of the department. However, the decisions of those wizards are final.
